Gum Paste Flowers...

Many students are moving away, and request a Gum Paste recipe because they are not sure they will be able to find ready-to-use Gum Paste wherever they go...
So, here is a recipe that might help:

Gum Paste

3 cups sifted icing sugar

1 tb Gum-Tex or Gum Tragacanth

1 tb Glucose

4 tbs warm water

1 extra cup of icing sugar (save for later use)

1. In a large bowl, mix Gum-Tex into 3 cups of icing sugar. Make a hole in the center and set aside.

2. Mix water and glucose in a glass measuring cup and blend. Heat in microwave for about 30 seconds until mixture is clear.

3. Pour into mixture of icing sugar and Gum-Tex, and mix until well blended (mixture will be very soft).

4. Place mixture in plastic bag or wrap in plastic film and seal tightly.

5. Let mixture rest at room temperature for 8 hours or overnight.

6. When ready to use, knead incorporating the extra cup of icing sugar. As you work it in, gum paste should whiten and soften.

Good luck with it... and enjoy your flowers!

Oh, my God! I so wanted cupcakes!

I couldn't resist this picture! When we were setting up this cake, there was this little boy... He wasn't a very happy camper... Look at the expression on his face... I am sure he wanted cupcakes instead!

Happy Canada Drizzly Day!

I wouldn't miss my pancake breakfast and the parade for anything in the world. Every 1st of July, we go for the pancake breakfast at Grand Boulevard, North Vancouver, rain or shine... This year it was very close to rain... but it was fun, anyway!
This lady reminded me of my cakes, lots of colour and fun!
I must say, the people from the Lions Club, serving the breakfast (pancakes with sausages, and coffee), are great. Very patient, very nice. And even when you have to stand in line for a good half hour, it is fun to see everybody getting ready for the parade...

My favourite? The pipers...
The old cars..
Freddy Fuddpucker and his mopper...
And everything fun and stylish as this horse in black and white...

I hope you are having fun, too...
